I was born in Bath and grew up on the coast of Maine. During my youth I swam for the Bath Y, rowed crew at Exeter, and joined the sailing team at Yale where I was a member of the national big-boat championship team. My career – interrupted as it was by occasional multi-year sailing voyages – was as CFO for various small companies in Maine (Brunswick Technologies, Maine Oxy, and Technology Systems, respectively). My son Christopher, born in 1981, sailed 13,000 miles before he was 3. I am now retired and reside on Orr’s Island, Maine with my wife Lynnie Bruce when we aren’t cruising or traveling.
